Flutterwave Makes CNBC-Statista Global Fintech List as Transactions Cross $50bn

.

African payments technology company Flutterwave has been named among the world’s leading fintech companies in the latest CNBC and Statista World’s Top Fintech Companies ranking, adding another global recognition to the Nigerian-founded company as it marks its 10th year of operations.

The annual ranking, produced by business news network CNBC in partnership with market research firm Statista, recognises fintech companies driving innovation, customer value and changes across the financial services industry.

Flutterwave’s inclusion highlights its decade-long expansion from a payments company into a broader financial infrastructure provider connecting African businesses and consumers to international markets.

Operations Span 30-Plus African Markets

Flutterwave currently operates across more than 30 African countries, supporting payments in over 50 currencies.

The company said it has processed more than one billion transactions valued at over $50 billion, underscoring the scale it has achieved since its establishment.

Its product portfolio includes Flutterwave for Business and Send App, which provide businesses and individuals with tools for accepting payments, conducting transactions and facilitating cross-border money movement.

The company’s growth has increasingly centred on reducing the complexity associated with payments between African markets and the rest of the world.

Recognition Adds to Global Profile

The CNBC-Statista recognition comes after Flutterwave was included in the 2025 TIME100 Most Influential Companies list, further strengthening its profile among global technology and financial-services companies.

Yewande Akomolafe-Kalu, Head of Marketing at Flutterwave, said the latest recognition reflects the company’s efforts to build technology aimed at solving practical problems for businesses and individuals.

She said the company intends to use the milestone as motivation to continue developing financial solutions that allow businesses to grow, expand internationally and access new opportunities.

Flutterwave Moves Beyond Payments

As it enters its second decade, Flutterwave is broadening its ambitions beyond payment processing.

The company recently acquired Mono, a Nigerian open-banking infrastructure startup, expanding its capabilities in financial data and connectivity.

It has also secured a Nigerian Microfinance Banking Licence, allowing it to move further into financial services, while developing stablecoin-powered solutions through partnerships with blockchain infrastructure companies Polygon and Turnkey.

The strategy is aimed at allowing businesses to manage more aspects of their financial activities from a single platform, including banking, moving funds and managing their money.

Strategic Backing Supports Expansion

Flutterwave’s expansion is also being supported by strategic investments from global digital-asset companies Ripple and Circle.

The backing comes as the company seeks to deepen its role in cross-border commerce and financial infrastructure, particularly as African businesses increasingly participate in international digital markets.

Rather than limiting its proposition to payment acceptance, Flutterwave is positioning itself as infrastructure through which businesses can manage financial operations, access international markets and conduct cross-border transactions.

A Decade of Building African Payment Infrastructure

Flutterwave’s latest recognition comes at a significant point in its corporate journey.

Ten years after its founding, the company has evolved from an African payments startup into a financial technology business with operations spanning dozens of markets and transaction volumes running into billions of dollars.

Its inclusion in the CNBC-Statista ranking therefore reflects not only its payments footprint but also the broader shift in its business strategy.

With banking services, open banking, stablecoin infrastructure and cross-border financial products increasingly forming part of its offering, Flutterwave is betting that its next phase of growth will come from helping businesses bank, manage, move and grow their money, rather than simply processing payments.

The company now faces the challenge of translating its growing international footprint and expanding product portfolio into sustained growth while maintaining the operational and regulatory standards expected of a major financial infrastructure provider.
