Quick-commerce platform Glovo has unveiled an artificial intelligence-powered shopping assistant that allows customers to discover products, compare prices and initiate purchases through natural conversations on ChatGPT and Claude, marking a significant step in the evolution of AI-driven retail.
The new feature, dubbed Shopping Assistant, moves away from the traditional search-and-scroll shopping experience, enabling users to simply describe what they need in everyday language while the AI identifies relevant products from nearby stores.
According to Glovo, the integration signals a shift from keyword-based searches to an intent-driven shopping model, where conversational AI becomes the starting point for product discovery.
Shopping Through Conversation
The AI assistant is designed to function like a digital shopping concierge.
Instead of manually browsing categories or applying multiple search filters, customers can make requests such as finding “a last-minute gift for a coffee lover under ₦50,000” or other product-specific needs.
The assistant then interprets the request, verifies the user’s location, searches available inventory and presents a curated selection of products that best match the request.
Glovo said the feature supports multi-turn conversations, allowing users to refine their preferences while the AI remembers details such as spending limits, product categories and previous instructions.
Personalised Product Recommendations
After analysing a user’s request, the assistant displays a visual carousel featuring up to five recommended products available from local retail outlets.
Each recommendation includes the product image, store name, customer rating and price, helping shoppers compare available options before making a decision.
While product discovery takes place entirely within ChatGPT or Claude, purchases are completed through Glovo’s own platform.
Selecting the “View on Glovo” option redirects customers to the Glovo mobile app or website, where payment is processed and the order is finalised.
Retail and Grocery Take Centre Stage
For the initial rollout, Glovo is focusing on retail and grocery shopping, two categories where consumers increasingly rely on AI tools for product research before making purchasing decisions.
The company believes the growing popularity of generative AI presents an opportunity to reach customers earlier in their shopping journey, particularly as conversational interfaces begin to replace conventional web searches.
Shiro Theuri, Chief Technology Officer at Glovo, said the company is focused on making its services accessible wherever customers already spend their digital time.
According to him, integrating with ChatGPT and Claude removes friction from the shopping experience while reinforcing Glovo’s vision of becoming the everyday platform for convenience and local commerce.
How the New Experience Works
To use the feature, customers first connect their Glovo account with either ChatGPT or Claude.
Once linked, users can begin a conversation by entering @glovo followed by their shopping request.
The AI then generates tailored recommendations, and users who wish to proceed simply select “View on Glovo” to complete their purchase through the company’s app or website.
After payment is confirmed, Glovo’s partner store prepares the order before a courier collects and delivers it, maintaining the platform’s existing quick-commerce fulfilment model.
A Shift Towards Intent-Based Commerce
The launch reflects a broader transformation in digital commerce, where artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming the primary interface between consumers and online services.
Rather than requiring shoppers to know exactly what product they want or where to find it, conversational AI allows users to describe their needs naturally while intelligent systems handle product discovery.
Industry analysts see this approach as the next stage of e-commerce, moving from search-based interactions to personalised, intent-driven recommendations that simplify purchasing decisions.
For Glovo, the initiative represents more than a product enhancement—it is a strategic effort to position the company at the forefront of AI-powered quick commerce as consumer behaviour continues to evolve.
Implications for Digital Commerce
Founded in Barcelona in 2015, Glovo currently operates in 22 countries across Europe, Central Asia and Africa, connecting customers with restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies and retail stores through its on-demand delivery platform.
By embedding its services into leading AI assistants, the company is seeking to redefine how consumers interact with digital marketplaces, replacing traditional browsing with intelligent conversations.
As generative AI becomes increasingly integrated into everyday digital experiences, Glovo’s latest innovation highlights how technology companies are adapting to a future where shopping begins not with a search bar, but with a simple conversation.
