Berger Paints Posts 27% Profit Growth in H1 2026 as Robust Paint Sales Lift Earnings

.

Berger Paints Nigeria Plc delivered a strong financial performance in the first half of 2026, posting a 27% year-on-year increase in profit before tax (PBT) to ₦1.20 billion, driven by sustained demand for its paint products, improved revenue, and disciplined cost management.

The unaudited financial results for the six months ended June 30, 2026, underscore the company’s resilience despite operating in a challenging macroeconomic environment marked by inflationary pressures and elevated production costs.

Revenue Growth Powered by Core Paint Business

Berger Paints recorded stronger sales during the review period, with paint and allied products remaining the company’s primary revenue driver and accounting for the overwhelming majority of total turnover.

Higher customer demand across its product portfolio helped lift revenue, while prudent cost controls enabled the company to convert top-line growth into stronger profitability.

The performance reflects continued momentum from the first quarter of the year, when the manufacturer also reported double-digit growth in sales and earnings.

Profitability Improves Despite Cost Pressures

The company’s profit before tax rose to ₦1.20 billion, representing a 27% increase compared with the corresponding period of 2025.

Gross profit also strengthened as revenue growth outpaced the increase in production costs, demonstrating the company’s ability to maintain healthy margins despite rising input prices.

Operating profit benefited from improved efficiency, while finance income and other operating gains provided additional support to overall earnings.

Operational Efficiency Supports Performance

Berger Paints attributed its improved financial performance to a combination of stronger market demand, disciplined cost management and operational efficiency.

The company continued to optimize production processes while maintaining tight control over selling, distribution and administrative expenses, helping preserve profitability amid persistent economic headwinds.

Management noted that its focus on efficient operations remains central to sustaining growth and delivering value to shareholders.

Balance Sheet Remains Healthy

The paint manufacturer also strengthened its financial position during the period.

Growth in retained earnings and shareholders’ equity reflected the company’s improved earnings profile, while its asset base remained supported by investments in property, plant and equipment, inventories and other operating assets.

The results indicate that Berger Paints continues to build financial resilience while supporting future business expansion.

Construction Activity Continues to Drive Demand

Industry analysts say the company’s performance highlights the resilience of Nigeria’s decorative paints market, where demand continues to be supported by residential construction, infrastructure development and renovation projects.

Although manufacturers continue to contend with inflation, foreign exchange volatility and higher raw material costs, companies with efficient operations and strong brand recognition have been better positioned to protect margins.

Berger Paints’ latest earnings suggest that demand for quality paint products remains relatively strong despite broader economic challenges.

Positive Outlook for the Rest of the Year

With a solid first-half performance, Berger Paints enters the second half of 2026 from a position of strength.

Market observers expect the company to benefit from continued construction activities and seasonal demand, although inflationary pressures and exchange rate movements are likely to remain key factors influencing operating costs.

If current sales momentum is sustained alongside disciplined expense management, Berger Paints could be on course to deliver another year of improved profitability, reinforcing its position as one of Nigeria’s leading players in the paints and coatings industry.
