August Dividend Season Kicks Off as Eight NGX Firms Announce Qualification Dates

.

Investors on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) are preparing for another dividend season after eight listed companies announced qualification dates for interim, final and special dividend payments scheduled for August and September 2026.

The companies, drawn from sectors including telecommunications, energy, agriculture, insurance, hospitality, investment holdings, environmental services and publishing, have released timelines that determine which shareholders will be eligible to receive the declared dividends. The announcements come as corporate earnings remain resilient across several industries, reinforcing investor confidence in dividend-paying stocks.

Understanding the Qualification Date

A qualification date is one of the most important milestones in the dividend payment process. It represents the cut-off date on which an investor must be listed in a company’s register of members to qualify for a declared dividend.

Shareholders who acquire shares before the qualification date will be entitled to the payout, while those who purchase the stock afterwards will have to wait for future dividend declarations.

With several companies announcing attractive returns this month, market analysts expect increased trading activity as income-focused investors reposition their portfolios.

VFD Group Opens the Dividend Calendar

VFD Group Plc was the first company to set its qualification date, fixing August 3, 2026, for an interim dividend of ₦0.24 per share, with payment scheduled for August 10.

The investment holding company reported steady financial growth in 2025, posting ₦88.36 billion in revenue, up 13.22% from the previous year. Profit after tax also rose to ₦9.72 billion, while retained earnings increased by more than 55% to ₦16.71 billion, providing a solid foundation for the dividend declaration.

Presco Declares Final and Interim Dividends

Presco Plc announced two separate dividend payments.

The company proposed a final dividend of ₦14.66 per share, with August 7 set as the qualification date, while shareholders seeking to benefit from its ₦10.00 interim dividend must qualify by August 14. Payment for the interim dividend is expected on August 27.

The oil palm producer delivered impressive financial results in 2025, recording revenue of ₦330.64 billion, representing a 59.34% increase year-on-year. Profit after tax climbed to ₦121.35 billion, supported by stronger sales and improved operational efficiency.

Ikeja Hotel Rewards Shareholders

Ikeja Hotel Plc fixed August 7 as the qualification date for its ₦0.03 interim dividend per share, with payment expected on September 4.

The hospitality company nearly doubled its profitability during the 2025 financial year. Revenue rose by 37.8% to ₦25.84 billion, while profit after tax surged by more than 94% to ₦13.94 billion, reflecting stronger performance across its operations.

The Initiates Plc Continues Strong Earnings Momentum

Environmental services company The Initiates Plc scheduled August 10 as its qualification date for an interim dividend of ₦0.20 per share, with payment due on August 31.

The company recorded one of the strongest earnings performances among the dividend-paying firms. Revenue jumped by more than 150% to ₦11.70 billion, while profit after tax rose by 145.57% to ₦3.39 billion. Retained earnings also nearly tripled during the period.

Seplat Offers Interim and Special Dividend

Energy giant Seplat Energy Plc declared a combined dividend of 12 US cents per share, comprising an interim dividend of five cents and a special dividend of seven cents.

Using the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) closing rate of ₦1,368.50 per US dollar as of July 30, 2026, the dividends translate to approximately ₦68.43 and ₦95.80 per share respectively.

The qualification date is August 13, while payment is expected on or around August 28.

Seplat also reported exceptional financial performance, with revenue soaring to ₦4.14 trillion, while profit after tax rose to ₦241.58 billion, supported by increased energy production and stronger commodity prices.

Custodian Investment Announces Interim Dividend

Custodian Investment Plc has fixed August 17 as the qualification date for its ₦0.25 interim dividend, with shareholders expected to receive payment on September 8.

The insurance and investment group posted a 46.99% increase in insurance service revenue to ₦141.45 billion, while profit after tax climbed by over 22% to ₦67.63 billion, reflecting sustained business growth.

MTN Nigeria Declares ₦26 Interim Dividend

Telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria Communications Plc announced an interim dividend of ₦26.00 per share, with August 20 set as the qualification date and payment scheduled for September 7.

The company delivered one of the strongest financial turnarounds on the NGX, with revenue increasing to ₦5.20 trillion and profit after tax reaching ₦1.11 trillion, reversing the loss recorded in the previous financial year. MTN also returned to positive retained earnings, highlighting a significant improvement in its financial position.

University Press Completes August Schedule

The final company on the August dividend calendar is University Press Plc, which proposed a ₦0.18 final dividend per share.

The qualification date has been fixed for August 28, while payment is expected on September 24.

Although the publisher recorded a 14.47% increase in revenue to ₦3.89 billion, profit after tax declined by 52.58% to ₦213.67 million, reflecting higher operating costs despite stronger sales.

Dividend Stocks Remain in Focus

The wave of dividend announcements comes at a time when investors are increasingly seeking stable returns from fundamentally strong companies listed on the NGX.

Analysts say firms with consistent dividend histories and robust earnings continue to attract institutional and retail investors, particularly amid improving corporate performance across banking, energy, telecommunications and consumer-facing sectors.

With August now underway, market participants are expected to closely monitor qualification dates, earnings releases and additional corporate actions as companies continue to reward shareholders and position themselves for the remainder of the financial year.
