Bujeti Launches Smart Payment Link to Automate Collections and Business Accounting

.

African finance management platform Bujeti has introduced a new payment solution designed to go beyond collecting customer payments by automatically categorising transactions, updating financial records and streamlining bookkeeping for businesses.

The company says its newly launched Payment Link addresses one of the biggest operational challenges facing African businesses by transforming payment collection into an automated finance workflow, reducing the manual processes that typically follow every transaction.

Beyond Traditional Payment Links

While payment links have become a common feature among fintech companies, Bujeti argues that most existing solutions stop once a customer completes a transaction, leaving businesses to manually reconcile payments, update spreadsheets, post transactions into accounting software and manage revenue allocation.

Its latest product aims to eliminate those repetitive tasks by integrating payment collection directly with financial management tools, allowing businesses to automate much of their back-office operations.

According to the company, customers can make payments through cards, bank transfers or USSD using a single branded payment link, while the platform automatically handles the financial processes that follow.

Automating the Finance Workflow

Bujeti said every payment received through the new solution immediately triggers a series of automated actions.

These include categorising incoming funds based on predefined revenue classifications, updating company budgets in real time, recognising revenue, synchronising transactions with accounting software and automatically splitting payments among multiple beneficiaries where required.

The company believes the approach will significantly reduce administrative work for finance teams and improve the accuracy of financial reporting.

Designed for African Businesses

The launch aligns with Bujeti’s broader mission of providing financial control tools tailored to African enterprises.

Chief Executive Officer Cossi Achille Arouko noted that while digital payment collection has advanced significantly over the years, innovation around what happens after businesses receive payments has remained limited.

Drawing on his experience building payment products across Africa, Arouko said the company developed the solution to help businesses gain greater visibility and control over their finances rather than simply processing transactions.

Building a Complete Finance Platform

The payment link is the latest addition to Bujeti’s growing suite of finance management products.

The platform already offers corporate cards with spending controls, automated vendor payments, payroll management, invoicing, quotation management and a Tax Vault designed to help businesses automatically set aside statutory tax obligations.

By integrating these services, the company aims to position itself as a comprehensive finance control centre rather than a standalone payments provider.

Addressing Financial Management Gaps

Bujeti argues that many African small and medium-sized enterprises still rely heavily on spreadsheets, messaging applications and manual bookkeeping to manage their finances.

The company estimates that only a small proportion of businesses on the continent currently use dedicated online accounting software, making financial reporting, compliance and access to funding more difficult.

Automating transaction categorisation and record-keeping could help businesses create more structured financial records, improving transparency for lenders, auditors and investors.

Backed by Global Investors

Bujeti has attracted support from several international investors since its launch.

The startup was among the few African companies selected for Y Combinator’s Winter 2023 accelerator programme and has raised $2.5 million in funding from investors including Entrée Capital, Voltron Capital, Kima Ventures, and Arash Ferdowsi, co-founder of Dropbox.

The company also disclosed that it has partnered with Nigeria’s Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion on initiatives aimed at expanding financial inclusion across the country.

Expanding the Role of Fintech

The launch reflects a broader trend within Africa’s fintech ecosystem, where companies are increasingly moving beyond payment processing to deliver integrated financial management solutions.

As businesses seek greater efficiency and stronger financial controls, platforms capable of combining payments, accounting and automation are expected to play a growing role in supporting enterprise growth across the continent.

For Bujeti, the new payment link represents another step toward redefining how African businesses manage their finances turning every payment into an opportunity to automate operations, improve financial visibility and simplify business administration.
