Nigerian fintech company OPay has launched a nationwide savings campaign designed to encourage customers to build more consistent saving habits amid rising household costs and growing demand for accessible digital financial services.
The OPay 7 Savings Festival, powered by its OWealth savings platform, runs from August 10 to September 27, 2026, offering eligible participants an interest rate of 27% per annum, daily interest and access to an additional ₦77 million interest pool.
Campaign Targets Savings Discipline
The initiative is built around Target Savings plans, with customers able to set savings goals between ₦77,000 and ₦777,000.
Participants who consistently save towards their selected targets without making an early withdrawal can qualify for the advertised 27% annual interest, daily interest and a share of the additional ₦77 million interest pool.
According to OPay, the campaign is intended to make saving less dependent on occasional deposits and instead encourage customers to develop regular financial habits.
Digital Savings Moves Beyond Payments
The campaign reflects a broader shift in Nigeria’s fintech industry, where digital financial platforms are increasingly moving beyond payments and transfers into savings and other financial-management services.
OPay said customers are increasingly seeking platforms that allow them not only to transact but also to save and grow their money while having visibility into their financial goals.
Through OWealth, participants can monitor their savings progress and rewards throughout the campaign, with the company positioning transparency and accountability as important elements of the programme.
OPay Links Savings to Financial Resilience
Elizabeth Wang, Chief Commercial Officer at OPay, said the campaign forms part of the company’s effort to help Nigerians develop stronger financial habits.
She said consistent saving could provide customers with greater financial confidence while allowing them to benefit from the rewards attached to the campaign.
OPay also said stronger saving behaviour among individuals and small businesses could contribute to more financially resilient households and support broader economic stability.
How the Festival Works
Customers participating in the campaign can access the programme through the OPay app.
They are required to open or log into their account, navigate to the 7 Savings Festival section and create a Target Savings plan within the specified range.
While the festival begins on August 10, customers can create new Target Savings plans until September 20, 2026.
Final interest earnings and distributions from the additional ₦77 million interest pool are scheduled for September 27, 2026.
OPay Expands Financial Services Offering
The savings initiative adds another layer to OPay’s broader financial-services offering in Nigeria.
Established in 2018, the fintech provides services including money transfers, bill payments, card services, airtime and data purchases and merchant payments.
OPay said it is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) under the applicable deposit insurance framework.
From Moving Money to Helping Customers Save
The latest campaign highlights how Nigeria’s digital finance sector is evolving from transaction-focused services toward products designed to support broader financial management.
For OPay, the 7 Savings Festival is positioned as an effort to turn savings into a more regular financial practice while strengthening customer engagement with its digital platform.
As competition in Nigeria’s fintech market intensifies, the ability of platforms to combine payments, savings and other financial services could increasingly determine how they retain customers and deepen their role in the country’s financial ecosystem.
