Global payments technology company Mastercard has appointed Yasemin Bedir as President of its Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (EEMEA) region, placing a veteran company executive at the helm of an expanded business covering 81 countries.
Bedir will assume the new role on September 1, 2026, succeeding Dimitrios Dosis, who has led the region since Mastercard’s international operations were reorganised in 2022.
The appointment comes as Mastercard continues to expand its presence across markets where digital payments, financial inclusion and emerging payment technologies are creating new growth opportunities.
Bedir Takes Charge of Expanded Regional Business
Mastercard said the EEMEA region has expanded in recent years, bringing additional markets into what the company describes as a high-growth, agile 81-country business.
Bedir’s appointment is therefore significant not only as a leadership transition but also as the company seeks to maintain momentum across a geographically diverse region spanning Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Her mandate will include overseeing Mastercard’s business across the region while working with customers, partners and other stakeholders to drive continued growth.
A Mastercard Veteran With Global Experience
Bedir brings extensive experience from within Mastercard to the position.
Her career with the payments company has included senior leadership responsibilities across different markets and business functions, giving her experience in areas including payments, technology and commercial strategy.
Mastercard highlighted her track record of delivering results and developing businesses as part of the leadership strength behind the appointment.
Her experience is expected to be particularly relevant as Mastercard increasingly operates beyond traditional card payments and expands into broader digital-payment services.
Dosis Moves on After Regional Leadership
Bedir will take over from Dimitrios Dosis, who has served as President of Mastercard’s EEMEA region since the company’s international operations were realigned.
The 2021 restructuring brought additional markets into the regional structure and created a broader business with significant growth potential across emerging and established economies.
Dosis’s tenure has coincided with rapid changes in the payments industry, including the growth of digital wallets, account-to-account payments, real-time payment systems and other technology-driven financial services.
Digital Payments Drive Regional Opportunity
The leadership transition comes as countries across EEMEA continue to expand digital payment adoption.
Africa, in particular, remains a major growth market as financial institutions, fintech companies and governments seek to move more transactions into digital channels.
For Mastercard, the opportunity extends beyond conventional card payments to technologies and services supporting digital identity, cybersecurity, open banking and other financial infrastructure.
The company has also been increasing its focus on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and new payment rails, as consumer and business payment behaviour evolves.
Africa Remains Key to Mastercard’s Growth
The African market presents both significant opportunities and challenges for Mastercard.
Large populations with growing smartphone adoption, expanding fintech ecosystems and substantial numbers of people outside traditional banking systems provide room for further digital financial inclusion.
At the same time, differences in regulation, infrastructure and financial-market development across countries mean that Mastercard’s regional strategy must accommodate highly varied local conditions.
Bedir’s appointment comes as the company seeks to navigate those differences while expanding partnerships and digital payment solutions across the continent.
New Leadership as Payment Industry Evolves
The EEMEA leadership change also reflects the broader transformation of the global payments industry.
Payment companies are increasingly competing across multiple layers of financial technology, from cards and digital wallets to real-time payments, digital identity and technology-enabled financial services.
As these markets develop, Mastercard’s ability to combine its global infrastructure with locally tailored partnerships will be central to sustaining growth.
With Bedir scheduled to take over on September 1, the company is entering its next phase of EEMEA expansion under a leader with extensive experience inside the organisation.
For Mastercard, the appointment signals continuity in its regional strategy while placing fresh leadership at the centre of one of its most geographically diverse and potentially high-growth markets.
