Huawei Showcases AI-Ready Secure Network Infrastructure for Nigeria’s Digital Future

.

Huawei Technologies Nigeria has brought together government officials, enterprises, technology partners and industry stakeholders to examine how secure, intelligent and reliable networks can support Nigeria’s next phase of digital transformation.

The discussions took place at the Huawei Nigeria IP&OpticX Club 2026, held at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos under the theme, “Secure Networks Powering Nigeria’s Digital Future.” The event focused on the growing importance of network infrastructure as organisations adopt artificial intelligence, cloud services and increasingly connected digital operations.

Networks Move Beyond Basic Connectivity

Speaking at the event, Matamela Mashau, Chief Technology Officer of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa’s ICT Marketing & Solution Sales Department, outlined the company’s vision for its Xinghe Intelligent Network.

The concept positions networks as more than connectivity infrastructure, with intelligence and automation becoming increasingly important as businesses move towards what Huawei describes as an era of industrial all-intelligence.

Huawei also showcased its Xinghe AI Campus concept, which is designed to combine faster wireless connectivity with stronger security and automated network operations.

Among the capabilities highlighted were next-generation wireless technologies ahead of Wi-Fi 8, security protection beginning at endpoint onboarding and automated resolution of wireless network faults. The objective is to improve network availability, security and operational efficiency while delivering a better experience for users.

Lagos Links Digital Infrastructure to Smart City Plans

The importance of secure connectivity to government digitalisation was highlighted by Engr. Oteniya Olorunlani, Head of the Network Administration and Support Unit at the Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.

Olorunlani said Lagos’ digital development agenda is guided by the Lagos State Development Plan 2052, with digital government and smart-city development among its key priorities.

Reliable and secure network infrastructure is expected to support wider adoption of digital public services, improve government operations and make services more accessible to citizens.

MTN, Huawei Deepen Enterprise Partnership

The event also provided a platform for MTN Nigeria to outline its enterprise digital transformation strategy.

Taiwo Temitope Abigael, Solution Design Engineer at MTN Network Enterprise Service, highlighted the growing collaboration between MTN and Huawei and the telecom operator’s government and enterprise offerings.

Under an Enterprise Dedicated Line + X model, the companies are combining dedicated connectivity with services such as LAN, WLAN, smart video, intelligent collaboration, cybersecurity and FTTH.

MTN also showcased its managed service provider platform and public-cloud capabilities, particularly for SMEs seeking to simplify network and IT management.

Huawei Targets SMEs With Simplified Networks

Small and medium-sized businesses were another major focus of the event.

Wu Han, a Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa solution architect, presented the company’s eKit SME Network portfolio, designed around four areas: intelligent offices, stores, hotels and educational institutions.

The solutions are intended to simplify deployment and management for SMEs while giving Huawei’s distribution partners additional opportunities to serve businesses with different networking requirements.

AI Pushes Data Centres Towards Autonomous Networks

As demand for AI computing increases, Huawei also used the event to present its Xinghe AI Fabric 2.0, an architecture designed to support high-performance and continuously available AI data-centre networks.

The system combines three major capabilities: AI Brain, which supports network autonomy and automated fault recovery; AI Connectivity, focused on elastic and lossless networking; and AI Network Elements, which provide faster self-healing and enhanced protection against data leakage.

Huawei says the combination can help enterprises build more resilient infrastructure capable of supporting increasingly demanding AI workloads.

Fidelity Bank Shares Data Centre Experience

The financial services sector also featured prominently, with Alexander Shov-Shilva, Group Head of Infrastructure Services at Fidelity Bank, discussing the bank’s experience with Huawei’s CloudFabric architecture.

According to the presentation, the architecture has helped the bank improve network operations and maintenance, simplify routine management and reduce pressure on its IT teams.

The highly available network is also designed to provide a stable infrastructure layer for the bank’s digital and financial services.

Cybersecurity Becomes Central to Digital Growth

Security emerged as another major theme as businesses become more dependent on digital infrastructure.

Kevin Yang, a senior product-management expert in Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line, presented the company’s Xinghe AI Network Security approach.

The architecture uses artificial intelligence to improve threat detection, network visibility and security response across campus networks, branches, data centres and security operations.

Huawei said the system is designed to identify encrypted and previously unknown threats before they can spread through networks or result in data loss, effectively turning network infrastructure into an additional layer of defence.

AI and Video Expand Smart-City Capabilities

The event also explored how artificial intelligence, video technology, sensing and networks can work together to improve security and situational awareness.

Olayemi Joseph, Nigeria Enterprise Network Optical Product Solution Architect, highlighted Huawei technologies including SuperColor, SuperCoding, SuperFusion and SuperAI, which can support applications ranging from traffic sensing to campus security.

A related presentation from Dr. Bung, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Cross River State Planning Commission, examined the state’s Smart Public Safety initiative.

The project uses a unified algorithm platform and AI-enabled video applications to reduce system complexity, improve operational insights and shift public safety towards more proactive, real-time monitoring.

Building Infrastructure for an AI-Driven Economy

The discussions at the Huawei Nigeria IP&OpticX Club 2026 reflect a broader shift in the country’s technology infrastructure landscape.

As Nigerian organisations adopt AI, cloud computing, digital payments and other connected services, the underlying networks will increasingly need to deliver more than speed. Reliability, cybersecurity, automation and the ability to support high-performance computing are becoming equally important.

Huawei’s Director of Enterprise Network Solutions in Nigeria, Tulin, said organisations need networks that are fast, secure, reliable, intelligent and manageable as digital transformation accelerates.

The company said it intends to continue working with Nigerian customers, government institutions and ecosystem partners to deploy technologies that support AI adoption, improve operational efficiency and strengthen digital security.

For Nigeria, the broader challenge will be ensuring that investments in intelligent network infrastructure translate into practical benefits for businesses, public institutions and citizens as the country’s digital economy expands.
