FirstHoldCo Plc has achieved a historic milestone on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), becoming the first banking group in the country’s history to attain a market capitalisation exceeding N6 trillion.
The landmark was reached during trading on Monday, August 3, 2026, when the company’s share price climbed to N136.50, lifting its market value to approximately N6.21 trillion based on its outstanding share count of about 45.48 billion shares. The achievement further cements FirstHoldCo’s position as Nigeria’s most valuable listed banking institution.
Historic Rally Continues
The latest milestone extends what has been one of the strongest stock market rallies recorded by a Nigerian financial institution in recent years.
The achievement comes less than two weeks after FirstHoldCo crossed the N5 trillion market capitalisation mark for the first time during trading on July 22, following the release of its impressive half-year financial results, which boosted investor confidence and intensified buying interest in the stock.
Since the beginning of 2026, the company’s share price has appreciated by 184.97%, while it has gained 143.53% since the end of June, making it one of the Nigerian Exchange’s best-performing banking stocks this year.
Investor Confidence Drives Valuation
Market analysts attribute the sustained rally to strong investor confidence in the group’s financial performance, strategic direction and long-term growth prospects.
The banking sector has remained one of the primary drivers of the Nigerian stock market’s recovery in 2026, with investors increasingly positioning themselves in fundamentally strong financial institutions following robust earnings releases and improved corporate outlooks.
FirstHoldCo has emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries of this renewed optimism, consistently attracting both institutional and retail investors.
Banking Sector Leads Market Recovery
The record valuation reflects broader momentum within Nigeria’s banking industry, where several lenders have posted strong earnings despite a challenging macroeconomic environment.
Improved profitability, expanding interest income and investor expectations of stronger shareholder returns have fueled sustained demand for banking stocks throughout the year.
The sector has also played a central role in lifting the overall Nigerian Exchange, contributing significantly to the trillions of naira added to market capitalisation in recent months.
A Milestone for Nigeria’s Capital Market
Beyond FirstHoldCo, the development represents a landmark moment for Nigeria’s capital market, highlighting the increasing depth and resilience of listed financial institutions.
Crossing the N6 trillion valuation threshold demonstrates growing investor appetite for high-quality banking stocks and underscores the expanding scale of Nigeria’s equity market.
Analysts believe the milestone could further strengthen investor sentiment, particularly as more listed companies continue to release strong financial results and pursue growth strategies that enhance shareholder value.
Eyes on the Next Phase
While the historic valuation marks a significant achievement, market watchers will be monitoring whether FirstHoldCo can sustain its momentum in the months ahead.
Future performance is expected to depend on continued earnings growth, macroeconomic stability, regulatory developments and broader investor sentiment within Nigeria’s financial markets.
For now, however, FirstHoldCo has secured a place in Nigeria’s corporate history, setting a new benchmark for the banking industry and reinforcing its status as one of the country’s most valuable publicly listed companies.
