Globacom has introduced “Gloria,” an artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant, as the Nigerian telecommunications company marks its 23rd anniversary with a renewed focus on digital services, network expansion and customer experience.
The AI assistant has been integrated into the revamped Glo Café platform, giving subscribers a digital channel through which they can access support, resolve common service-related enquiries and navigate selected account services.
The launch signals Glo’s growing use of artificial intelligence to improve how it interacts with customers as telecom operators increasingly shift routine support services from traditional channels to automated digital platforms.
Gloria Brings AI Into Customer Service
Gloria is designed to provide automated assistance to Glo subscribers through the company’s digital ecosystem.
The assistant supports six languages, allowing customers to interact with the service across multiple linguistic preferences.
Through the Glo Café platform, subscribers can seek assistance with service-related issues and access account functions without relying exclusively on conventional customer-care channels.
The move reflects a wider industry shift towards AI-powered customer support, as telecom companies seek to provide faster responses while reducing the pressure on traditional call-centre operations.
Glo Café Gets a Digital Overhaul
The introduction of Gloria forms part of a broader revamp of Glo Café.
The updated platform is intended to provide a more convenient digital experience for subscribers, with additional features designed to simplify account management and service access.
Earlier details surrounding the revamped application indicated that it includes features such as biometric login, two-factor authentication, dark mode, multiple payment options and live offer notifications.
The company has positioned the upgraded platform as an important part of its broader effort to make digital engagement more accessible to millions of subscribers.
Network Investment Continues
Beyond its AI initiative, Globacom said it is continuing to invest in its telecommunications infrastructure.
The operator has been expanding its 4G LTE network, upgrading its data-core infrastructure and rolling out additional fibre capacity to support growing demand for voice and data services.
The company’s Chief Technical Officer, Remi Makinde, previously said network expansion was continuing across locations including Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers, as well as strategic locations such as tertiary institutions, malls and markets.
Glo is also working towards Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployment, while adopting technologies such as lithium batteries and solar-powered solutions to improve network reliability amid persistent electricity challenges.
More Digital Services for Subscribers
The AI launch comes alongside a wider push to increase the value customers receive from Glo’s services.
The company recently introduced “More Data More Value”, designed to provide subscribers with greater data benefits, while also expanding its Borrow Me Credit service to help customers remain connected when they run out of airtime or credit.
These initiatives form part of Glo’s broader strategy of combining connectivity with digital products and customer-focused services.
AI Becomes Part of Telecom Competition
The introduction of Gloria also highlights how artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
As subscribers demand quicker responses and more convenient digital services, operators are increasingly using AI to automate routine interactions, analyse customer behaviour and improve service delivery.
For Glo, the technology could allow the company to handle a larger volume of routine enquiries while giving customers access to assistance beyond traditional operating hours.
The company has also been using AI in other areas of its operations, including customer-experience management and network optimisation, according to recent reports on its digital transformation strategy.
23 Years of Local Telecom Innovation
Globacom’s latest innovation comes as the company celebrates 23 years of operations in Nigeria.
Since entering the market, Glo has positioned itself around network expansion, affordability and locally focused telecommunications products.
The anniversary provides an opportunity for the company to highlight not only its historical contribution to Nigeria’s telecom sector but also the technologies it believes will shape its next phase of growth.
With Gloria, upgraded digital platforms, continued fibre and LTE investments and plans to improve network reliability, Glo is increasingly positioning artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure at the centre of its customer strategy.
As Nigeria’s telecom market becomes more data-driven, the company’s ability to translate these investments into faster, more reliable and more convenient services will be critical to its competitiveness in the years ahead.
