Nigerian cryptocurrency platform Roqqu has expanded beyond digital asset trading with the launch of tokenised stocks, positioning the company as a broader investment platform offering users access to global equities through its mobile application.
The new product allows users to buy and manage blockchain-based representations of publicly traded stocks within the Roqqu app, reducing the need to navigate separate traditional investment platforms.
The development comes amid growing interest in tokenised real-world assets (RWAs), which use blockchain technology to represent traditional financial instruments such as equities and other assets digitally.
Bringing Global Stocks to One Platform
Roqqu said its tokenised stocks are designed to track the value of their underlying shares, giving users exposure to international equities through a simplified digital investment experience.
The company said the offering combines stock and digital-asset investing in a single mobile-first platform, potentially lowering some of the barriers that have traditionally limited access to international financial markets for investors in emerging economies.
According to Roqqu, the platform also allows users to begin investing with smaller amounts while managing their stock investments alongside their existing digital assets.
Tokenisation Reshapes Investment Access
Roqqu Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Onomor said tokenisation is changing the way investors interact with financial markets by reducing some of the geographical and infrastructural barriers associated with traditional investing.
He argued that blockchain-based financial assets can facilitate faster movement and settlement while expanding access to investment products across borders.
The launch therefore represents a strategic shift for Roqqu, which has historically focused primarily on cryptocurrency trading and related digital asset services.
Roqqu Broadens Its Financial Services Ambition
The tokenised-stock offering follows Roqqu’s broader efforts to build a more comprehensive digital investment ecosystem.
By combining cryptocurrencies with tokenised equities on the same platform, the company is seeking to serve users across multiple asset classes rather than limiting its proposition to cryptocurrency transactions.
The strategy reflects a wider movement among fintech and digital asset companies to bridge the gap between traditional financial markets and blockchain-based finance.
Nigeria’s Digital Asset Regulation Evolves
Roqqu’s expansion comes as Nigeria strengthens regulatory oversight of the virtual asset industry.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has continued admitting digital asset and investment-related businesses into its Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme (ARIP), a controlled environment designed to allow eligible companies to operate while regulators assess their models and compliance arrangements.
The SEC recently cleared seven additional entities for admission into the programme, following the earlier admission of companies including Quidax and Busha in 2024.
The regulatory developments reflect the government’s broader effort to formalise an industry that has grown significantly in Nigeria while addressing issues around investor protection, market integrity and financial oversight.
Virtual Assets Face New Tax Obligations
The launch also comes against the backdrop of Nigeria’s evolving tax framework for digital assets.
The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has issued guidelines covering the taxation of virtual assets, including cryptocurrency activities. Under the framework, medium and large companies can face a 30% corporate income tax on profits derived from cryptocurrency and other virtual asset activities.
The guidelines also establish obligations for Virtual Asset Service Providers, peer-to-peer marketplace operators and other participants in the digital asset ecosystem.
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2026 Executive Order on Virtual Assets Coordination established a framework for coordinating government oversight of virtual assets and their growing intersection with areas such as securities, payments, commodities and currencies.
Roqqu Targets a Wider Investment Market
The launch of tokenised stocks marks another stage in Roqqu’s evolution from a cryptocurrency exchange into a broader digital investment platform.
As tokenisation continues to gain traction globally, the company is betting that easier access to international financial products can attract users seeking alternatives beyond conventional cryptocurrency trading.
However, the expansion will also place greater importance on regulatory compliance, asset backing, investor protection and the ability of digital platforms to maintain confidence as they move deeper into traditional financial markets.
For Roqqu, the latest product represents an attempt to position itself at the intersection of cryptocurrency, blockchain technology and global investing, as Nigeria’s financial ecosystem continues to adapt to the growing convergence between digital and traditional assets.
