Spectranet remained Nigeria’s largest internet service provider by active subscribers in the second quarter of 2026, but Starlink continued to narrow the gap as competition intensified across the broadband market.
Latest data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) showed that licensed ISPs collectively had 420,989 active subscribers during the quarter, comprising 138,769 wired and 282,220 wireless broadband customers.
The top 10 providers accounted for 340,573 subscribers, representing about 80.9% of the total ISP market, underscoring the concentration of Nigeria’s broadband market among a relatively small group of operators.
Spectranet Maintains Top Position
Spectranet Ltd held onto the number-one position with 111,384 active subscribers, representing approximately 26.5% of the total market captured in the NCC data.
The company’s customer base was overwhelmingly wireless, with 110,040 wireless subscribers compared with 1,344 wired customers.
Spectranet also recorded 640 points of presence, giving it the largest physical network footprint among the three leading providers.
The company, which was licensed in 2009, was among the early providers of 4G LTE broadband services in Nigeria and has maintained its position at the top despite the rapid expansion of satellite internet.
Starlink Strengthens Challenge
Starlink Internet Services Nigeria Ltd ranked second with 98,642 active subscribers, equivalent to approximately 23.4% of the total ISP market.
The satellite broadband provider has held the second position since reaching it in the third quarter of 2024.
Despite having only one point of presence recorded in the NCC data, Starlink’s subscriber numbers show the extent to which satellite connectivity has gained traction among Nigerian consumers.
Starlink officially entered Nigeria in January 2023 after receiving its ISP licence from the NCC in May 2022.
The relatively small gap between Starlink and Spectranet suggests that the country’s ISP leadership structure could face further pressure as satellite connectivity expands.
FiberOne Holds Third Place
FiberOne Broadband Ltd retained third place with 56,486 active subscribers, representing about 13.4% of the total ISP market.
Unlike Spectranet and Starlink, FiberOne’s entire subscriber base was classified as wired broadband.
The company operates a fibre-to-the-home network and has 31 points of presence across its operating footprint.
Its continued position among Nigeria’s largest ISPs highlights the growing importance of fibre infrastructure in the country’s fixed broadband market.
New Entrants Reshape the Top 10
The lower half of the ranking showed significant movement, with newer players pushing established operators out of the leading group.
Fieldbase Services Ltd entered the ranking at number four with 15,102 subscribers. Its entire customer base was classified as wireless broadband, while the company had five points of presence.
ipNX Nigeria Ltd followed closely with 15,084 subscribers, placing fifth.
The fibre-focused provider had 14,698 wired subscribers and 386 wireless customers, with 54 points of presence.
The difference between Fieldbase and ipNX was only 18 subscribers, making the fourth and fifth positions particularly close.
Swift, Broadbased and Tizeti Follow
Swift Networks Ltd ranked sixth with 12,567 active subscribers, including 10,058 wireless and 2,509 wired customers.
The long-standing ISP had 281 points of presence, giving it one of the more extensive physical footprints among the leading providers.
Broadbased Communication Ltd occupied seventh place with 10,761 subscribers and 27 points of presence.
It was followed by Tizeti Network Ltd, which recorded 9,610 subscribers. All of Tizeti’s customers were classified as wireless broadband subscribers, while the company had 143 points of presence.
Ngcom Slips as Ikonectt Enters
Ngcom Ltd ranked ninth with 6,194 active subscribers, down from seventh place in the previous ranking.
Its customer base consisted of 5,958 wired subscribers and 236 wireless customers, while the company had 22 points of presence.
Completing the top 10 was Intellivision Technologies Ltd, trading as Ikonectt, with 4,743 active subscribers.
The company appeared in the top 10 for the first time, recording 43 points of presence and accounting for roughly 1.1% of the total active ISP market.
Broadband Competition Is Changing
The Q2 figures point to a broadband market undergoing a significant shift.
Traditional fixed and wireless providers continue to command large subscriber bases, but satellite connectivity has introduced a different competitive model that can reach customers beyond the physical footprint of fibre and terrestrial wireless networks.
Starlink’s continued growth is particularly notable because its subscriber base now sits relatively close to Spectranet’s, while established operators such as Ngcom have slipped down the rankings and new entrants such as Fieldbase and Ikonectt have gained ground.
For Nigeria’s broadband market, the next phase of competition is therefore likely to be shaped not only by subscriber numbers but also by the ability of providers to expand coverage, improve service quality and reach customers in areas where conventional infrastructure remains difficult or expensive to deploy.
