Access Bank Plc has increased the grant attached to its Womenpreneur Pitch-a-ton Africa programme to N7 million, strengthening its financial support for women entrepreneurs across the continent.
The bank said the enhanced grant is part of efforts to provide female-owned businesses with greater access to capital and other resources needed to scale their operations and build sustainable enterprises.
The latest adjustment further expands the financial component of the Womenpreneur initiative, which has positioned itself as a platform for developing the capacity of women entrepreneurs through business education, mentorship and funding opportunities.
Bigger Financial Backing for Women-Owned Businesses
The increase in the grant comes against the backdrop of persistent financing challenges faced by women-led businesses, particularly small and growing enterprises seeking capital to expand.
By raising the grant to N7 million, Access Bank is seeking to give successful participants a stronger financial base from which to invest in their businesses, improve operations and pursue expansion opportunities.
The Womenpreneur programme combines funding with entrepreneurship development, reflecting the growing recognition that access to finance alone may not be sufficient to sustain business growth.
Participants are exposed to business knowledge and mentorship designed to strengthen their ability to manage and grow their enterprises.
Womenpreneur Programme Expands Its Impact
Since its launch, the Womenpreneur Pitch-a-ton Africa initiative has focused on supporting female entrepreneurs with a combination of training, mentorship and financial assistance.
The programme has become one of Access Bank’s major women-focused entrepreneurship initiatives, providing participants with opportunities to improve their business capabilities while gaining exposure to networks and resources that can support long-term growth.
The latest increase in grant funding is therefore expected to enhance the programme’s capacity to deliver tangible financial support to beneficiaries.
For women entrepreneurs operating in an environment where access to affordable growth capital remains a major hurdle, additional grant funding could help businesses strengthen working capital, purchase equipment, expand production or improve their market reach.
Financing Gap Remains a Challenge
Women-owned enterprises continue to face significant barriers when seeking funding, including limited access to formal finance, inadequate collateral and the high cost of capital.
These challenges can restrict the ability of otherwise viable businesses to move beyond survival-stage operations and achieve meaningful scale.
Access Bank’s expanded grant initiative comes as financial institutions and development-focused organisations increasingly place greater emphasis on gender-focused financing and entrepreneurship programmes.
The objective is not only to increase the number of women participating in business but also to create conditions that enable women-led enterprises to survive, grow and contribute more significantly to economic activity.
Beyond Grants: Building Sustainable Enterprises
The Womenpreneur initiative’s emphasis on training and mentorship alongside financial support highlights a broader shift in entrepreneurship programmes towards combining capital with capacity building.
For beneficiaries, the value of the programme could extend beyond the immediate grant, particularly where training and mentorship help entrepreneurs improve financial management, strategy, marketing and other aspects of running a business.
The expanded N7 million grant consequently adds a stronger financial dimension to an initiative that is already centred on developing women’s entrepreneurial capabilities.
Access Bank’s move also reinforces the role of private-sector financial institutions in supporting female entrepreneurship as Nigeria and other African economies seek to expand opportunities for small businesses and broaden participation in economic growth.
With the grant now increased to N7 million, the Womenpreneur programme is positioned to provide selected female entrepreneurs with greater financial leverage as they seek to turn their businesses into more resilient and scalable ventures.
